This recipe for slow cooker turkey sloppy joes is healthy, packed with protein, and such an easy family-friendly dinner recipe! Throw all ingredients into a crockpot and come home to a comfort food meal that is so much better than Manwich.
Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker. Stir well to combine all the ingredients, making sure to break up the turkey (I recommend using a fork!).
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours.
Stir again before serving and season with more salt and pepper. See below for serving suggestions.
Using the sautee mode, heat the olive oil on medium high heat, and fry the turkey on medium high heat until meat is no longer pink. Drain. Then add diced onion, celery and green pepper and fry for 5 minutes.
Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Switch on slow cooker mode. Put on the lid and slow cook for 6 hours.
How to serve your sloppy joes:
The traditional way is to serve the meat mixture in a bun, as pictured.
But you can also serve it over a warm baked sweet potato or wrapped in a leafy piece of kale, cabbage, or collard greens.
You can also use the sloppy joe mixture as a topping instead of a filling, spooning it over your favorite spiralized veggies or baked or steamed spaghetti squash.
Storage:
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
