This Gluten-free, Low Carb & Paleo Almond Flour Pizza Crust recipe is a Carb Lover's dream! Made with a handful of healthy easy-to-grab ingredients and totally doable on weeknights.
5oz/ 140 g mozzarellacut into chunks (about 1 cup of chunks)
6tbsppizza sauce
2tbspfresh basilsliced into thin ribbons
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400F/200C.
In a large bowl, mix together almond flour, arrowroot, baking powder, sea salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Form a wheel in the center, and crack the eggs in it. Whisk the eggs a bit and incorporate with the rest of the flour mixture until a uniform dough forms. I started with a fork and finished kneading with my hands. If the dough is a bit too sticky/wet, add a pinch more arrowroot. If it’s too dry/crumbly, add a little bit of water, just one teaspoon at a time.
Gather the dough into a ball. Spray a pizza pan/stone with cooking spray (or a baking sheet if you don’t have a pizza pan). Place the dough on the pan and spread it out evenly with your hands (about ¼ inch/ 6 mm thick – it will rise a bit while baking).
Bake for 10 minutes without any toppings. Take it out of the oven, add toppings and finish baking 10 to 15 minutes according to the recipe you are using (see below for a simple margarita pizza).
Easy Margherita Pizza:
Spread pizza sauce on the pre-cooked base. Top with mozzarella. If you’re feeling fancy, add a few cherry tomatoes cut in half and a few bocconcini balls, too.
Bake for 10-15 minutes more, until cheese is fully melted and crust is light brown. Remove from the oven, add fresh basil leaves and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
The garlic and onion powder are optional additions that are not in any way gonna influence the texture but I find they do really add a delicious savoriness to the crust.
Make sure to use a metal baking dish for a crisp crust. If a glass or pyrex pie dish is all you have, you can still make this but I would personally bake in on a cookie sheet before using a pie dish.
Add some finely grated parmesan to the crust for the cheese lover's edition. Bear in mind that it won't be a paleo crust anymore!
