This week-end, we decided to visit the Blue Mountains with some friends. They consist in a sandstone plateau riddled with steep gullies eroded by rivers over thousands of years, and are about 30 miles away from Sydney. They're called the Blue Mountains because of the blue hazes you can see on the pics. It actually comes from the evaporation of eucalyptus trees' oil!
This place was absolutely breathtaking and huge. Two days were far not enough to see everything. We walked a lot, it was really exhausting, but beautiful! Check the pics if you doubt it!

Gorgeous photos. We went to the Blue Mountains when we were in Sydney in 2012 (just for a couple of days on a cruise). The day we were there it was foggy & rainy but it was clear that it was an incredibly beautiful area. We will be back in 2014 (on another cruise) and plan to take a day so we can take our time better than we could on an official ship's shore excursion. We are really looking forward to the opportunity to return.

Did your ship stop at Circular quay, near the Opera House? That must have been spectacular. I'm always impressed when I see them in the harbor, they're so big!
The Blue Mountains are beautiful. Perfect for an exhausting but amazing hike. I hope you'll have more luck with the weather next time!
