Irresistibly crunchy, buttery, sweet puff pastry twists filled with black cherry jam, chopped pistachios and a hint of cinnamon. Perfect little bites to serve as a light Christmas dessert, a festive appetizer or for a buffet-style holiday brunch.Cherry Pistachio Puff Pastry Twists arranged in a jam jar

This recipe for Cherry Pistachio Puff Pastry Twists is like a magic trick. As soon as the puff pastry twists are out of the oven, they instantly disappear...in your guests' stomachs. And yours too.

Mmm...I love food magic. It's funny to see how something so quick and easy to make like these puff pastry twists can be so good. Honestly, it requires A LOT of self-control not to eat the whole batch of cherry pistachio pastry all by yourself.

Half of the puff pastry twists got eaten during the photo shoot. They're that good.

I created this recipe for Cherry Pistachio Puff Pastry Twists with the Christmas feast in mind. I don't know about you, but at Christmas, I am usually so full at dessert-time that I don't even enjoy the festive sweets someone cared to make for me.

These crunchy puff pastry twists are the perfect alternative to a heavy, creamy traditional Christmas dessert. They are very light and you can eat as many as you want. But believe me - the cherry and pistachio combination is so festive and delicious, you'll want at least two pastry twists!

This recipe for puff pastry twists is very versatile. If you're not a big cherry preserve fan, just swap it for your favorite fruit like apricot or raspberries! Same thing for the nuts. I personally love this combination of cherry and pistachio but there's really no rule! Enjoy 🙂

    Ingredients

    • 1 square sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
    • ½ cup black cherry preserve or jam if you don't like fruit chunks
    • ¼ cup roasted pistachio unsalted, roughly chopped
    • ½ tbsp cinnamon optional

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a sil-pat.

    2. Spread black cherry preserves evenly on puff pastry. Don't forget the edges. Sprinkle with pistachio and cinnamon, if using.

    3. Cut puff pastry into 1-inch wide stripes. Grab the ends of each strip and twist in opposite directions to form a spiral.
    4. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden. Turn each pastry twist and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes or until golden. Each oven is different so keep a close eye on your twists to make sure they don't burn!

    5. Remove from oven and transfer to serving dish quickly (or it will stick to parchment paper!). Serve warm or cold (I prefer them slightly warm)
