This easy Pita Pizza Margherita is perfect for busy evenings. You can make this healthy version of Italian Pizza Margherita with only 4 ingredients and 15 minutes. A great pizza recipe for kids - cheaper and better than Domino's!
Since we came back from our vacation in Italy a few weeks ago, I can't stop thinking this small restaurant we found in one of my favorite Rome neighbourhoods, the Trastevere.
All the food we tasted was absolutely delicious (we went there several times!) and for a ridiculously low price. If one day we settle down in Rome, we'll have to make sure and avoid living in the perimeter of this restaurant. It would be way too dangerous for my hips!
I don't need to tell you that Italians are the absolute masters in the art of pizza making. You can find some on every street corner and I yet have to taste a bad one.
I almost always choose a simple Pizza Margherita. As you might know, the classic Margherita Pizza toppings are tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil. That's it.
The simplicity of this classic Italian pizza is probably what makes it so good. And the good news is, you can make the same pizza at home, in 15 minutes sharp. Hello, Pita Pizza Margherita! As the name might suggest, Pita Pizza used Pita bread as a base for the Margherita Pizza Toppings. What are the advantages of making Pita Pizza compared to traditional pizza dough? Let me explain:
I like to use pita bread because it's generally free of conservatives and sugar unlike most pizza bases you find at the store and the texture is perfect for a thin crust pizza.
Now back to the Margherita Pizza Toppings: Because it's a very simple recipe, each ingredient on our pita pizza must be of very good quality. Get your hands on a top quality seasoned pizza sauce (like basil, onion, garlic, herbs...) because it's the main ingredient.
Pita Pizzas are so simple to put together and the ingredients are so classic and straightforward, making them a great Pizza recipe for kids. So...margherita Pita Pizza for dinner tomorrow?
Trust me, your kiddos will enjoy these fun pita pizzas just as much as the Pizza Margherita from Domino's - and will not even notice that these ones are way healthier!

15-minute Margherita Pizza
This quick and easy Pita Pizza Margherita is perfect for busy evenings. You can make this healthy and easy version of traditional Pizza Margherita with only 4 ingredients and 15 minutes. A great pizza recipe for kids - so much cheaper and better than Domino's!
Ingredients
- 1 large round pita bread see notes
- 4 tbsp seasoned pizza sauce I used Leggo's pizza sauce with onion, garlic and herbs - make sure it's sugar free

- about 8 fresh basil leaves whole or roughly chopped
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 360F / 180C.
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleaning and arrange pita bread on it.
-
Spread pizza sauce on pita bread. Top with mozzarella.
-
Bake for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
-
Remove from the oven and top with basil.
-
Cut in half and serve immediately with a salad on the side.
Recipe Notes
You can use any store-bought pizza base for this recipe but I like to use pita bread because it's generally free of conservatives, sugar and other nasties (it's made of flour, water, yeast and salt) unlike most pizza bases and the texture is perfect for a thin crust pizza. Of course, homemade pizza dough would be great too!
